Collaborative & Proactive Solution (CPS)CPS, developed by Dr Ross Greene, is an evidence-based approach that is trauma-informed and neurodiversity affirming. It helps caregivers concentrate on identifying the underlying issues causing challenging behaviours in children and adolescents whilst collaboratively and proactively solving these problems. It is noted that the CPS model has a track record of dramatically improving behaviour.
Facing Your FearsFacing Your Fears is a program utilizing cognitive behavior therapy to reduce anxiety symptoms among children diagnosed with autism. Anxiety often hinders children's engagement in daily activities at home, school, and in the community. While its primary goal is to make CBT interventions more accessible for autistic children, the program may also benefit children with other learning challenges by improving their access to CBT interventions.
Children's Friendship Training, by Fred D. Frankel and Robert J. MyattContent is shared with families from this empirically based program for assisting children with social skills challenges. Topics discussed include, conversational skills, how to join play, strategies for dealing with peer teasing, how to be a good host for playdates, and general concepts related to social skills.
Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relations Skills (PEERS)PEERS is widely recognized for offering research-backed social skills training to preschoolers, adolescents, and young adults seeking to cultivate and sustain meaningful friendships and/or romantic relationships. These programs were first developed at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA.
Zones of RegulationThe Zones of Regulation offers a simple method to understand and discuss our feelings, categorizing emotions into four distinct colored Zones (blue, green, yellow, and red), each recognized as a natural part of human experience. This tool is helpful for teaching emotion regulation skill, perspective taking, and increased self-awareness of behaviours. The Zones of Regulation was created by occupational therapist Kuypers.
Interoception by Kelly MahlerInteroception involves recognizing and linking physical sensations to emotions. This ability is important for developing effective self-regulation skills.
